Operators and partners expanded managed defenses. Deutsche Telekom and Cloudflare partnered to strengthen digital infrastructure security for European enterprises through direct network interconnection. BT and Microsoft launched a Security Operations Centre-as-a-Service for Microsoft Sentinel to counter AI-powered threats, and BT’s Global Fabric platform now integrates Security Service Edge offerings from Cisco, Fortinet, Netskope and Zscaler. Contrivian created Contrivian Government Solutions for federal and defense connectivity, including post-quantum security, Gilat DataPath won more than $8 million in U.S. Department of War orders for SATCOM upgrades and field services, and the U.S. Army selected VIAVI’s T/Rx transceiver system for range modernization supporting drone and counter-drone development.
Human and fraud risks stayed in focus. SentiLink reported that identity theft hit a record 6.12 percent of financial applications in the first half of 2026, with fraudsters targeting home equity and retirement accounts. Kaseya’s report found human error is the top cyber concern for 68% of IT and security professionals, while 77% of IT departments feel under-resourced. ISC2 formed an Academic Advisory Council to align cybersecurity education with industry needs, and SonicWall launched SOCtoberfest for Cybersecurity Awareness Month, with new research and guidance on building daily habits of active protection. Together, the announcements suggest that as agents gain autonomy, identity, data governance and human behavior are becoming the decisive security layers.
Cloud news centered on managed services and regulated workloads. Oracle and NetApp announced a fully managed storage service that brings NetApp ONTAP capabilities natively to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, aimed at simplifying migration and management of databases, enterprise applications and AI data pipelines. BT and UBS are rolling out one of the first live cloud-native trader voice platforms on Microsoft Azure, consolidating 20 trading systems into a single standardized global solution across 17 countries. Both deals show regulated, latency-sensitive businesses moving critical workloads to managed cloud platforms with governance built in.
Connectivity hardware advanced for IoT and AI. Iridium and Altair Semiconductor are integrating Iridium NTN Direct into Altair’s ALT1350 and ALT1550 chipsets, combining terrestrial cellular and satellite connectivity on one chip for asset tracking, metering and telematics. U Mobile and ZTE proved a portable, fully off-grid 5G site powered by solar energy with satellite backhaul to reach underserved communities, and Gateworks introduced the GW16170 Wi-Fi HaLow module, which delivers up to +27.5 dBm transmit power to extend industrial IoT range and reliability.
In broadband and AI networking, Nokia introduced a flexible 50G/25G/10G PON line card on its Lightspan OLT platform with quantum security and redundancy. NVIDIA and Cisco unveiled Ultra-Dense Small Form Factor Pluggable optics at 400Gb/s per lane, promising four times the bandwidth density and 1.3 times the power efficiency of current optics for AI factories. At Network X 2026, Gemtek unveiled an AI-native Wi-Fi 8 gateway built with Qualcomm and gFiber, which will be the first operator to deploy it, with commercial launch targeted for 2027. The month’s hardware launches point to a future in which edge intelligence, higher-density optics and multi-gigabit access are designed together for AI-era traffic.
Customer experience stories tied network quality to trust. T-Mobile added new AI-powered intelligence and resilience to its 5G network, while an Arelion report found that 58% of enterprise leaders have delayed or scaled back strategic initiatives because of trust in network providers, and only 15% fully trust providers to resolve serious issues quickly. Nokia deployed Deepfield Cloud Intelligence across Zain KSA’s network in more than 100 Saudi cities for real-time visibility and faster troubleshooting, and VIVA Bolivia adopted the Totogi Ontology to evaluate network investments by revenue and rank every site by the revenue it generates. For operators, the message is that data-driven visibility and provider transparency are now central to winning enterprise confidence.
OSS/BSS vendors leaned into agents and orchestration. Beyond Now launched an agentic revenue and ecosystem orchestration platform that lets CSPs create, sell and monetize their own, partner and AI-powered services, and ORO Labs partnered with SAP to offer procurement orchestration as an SAP Ariba extension with low-code workflows and agentic AI.
