Mobile & Networks News

Mobile & Networks news spanned 5G core modernization, in-building coverage, fixed access, satellite, and subsea capacity. Ericsson and VodafoneThree activated VodafoneThree’s upgraded cloud-native 5G Core, part of a SEK 12.5 billion partnership. Built on Ericsson’s dual-mode 5G Core, it forms one of Europe’s largest mobile packet cores with 9 Tbps of capacity and lays the foundation for network slicing and differentiated connectivity for 28.6 million UK customers. To help operators and enterprises get hands-on with emerging capabilities, Nokia launched Mobile Core Early Access, an industry-first live hosted environment for exploring and validating the latest mobile core use cases in the AI era. In China, ZTE and China Mobile Jiangsu deployed a 5G-Advanced Agentic E2E solution at the Donghai Crystal Livestreaming Hub, delivering multi-fold uplink rate improvements and zero buffering for livestreamers—and a 14% year-on-year increase in local crystal e-commerce sales.

Indoor connectivity saw new options as well. Antevia Networks and Ontix demonstrated public MNO and private 5G running simultaneously over the same radio access network using Ontix’s Nexus MOCN gateway, improving economics for building owners and operators by eliminating separate radio deployments. SOLiD signed a distribution partnership with North American reseller Alliance Corporation to expand availability of its BARS platform for multi-carrier indoor coverage in small to mid-sized “Middleprise” buildings. On the test front, Rohde & Schwarz and Microwave Factory enabled fast, fully automated SAR measurements on 5G NR and LTE devices by integrating MWF’s MATEOS software with SPEAG’s cSAR3D vector array system and the CMX500 one-box signaling tester. Regulators weighed in too, as FCC Chairman Brendan Carr announced votes on proposals to unlock more than 1,000 MHz in the 12 GHz and 42 GHz bands for satellite broadband and to modernize Ultra-Wideband rules to enable new IoT and AI-enabled sensing applications.

In fixed networks, ZTE and Antel completed Latin America’s first validation of symmetric 50G PON at Antel Summit 2026, showcasing a three-generation convergence solution that lets GPON, 10G PON, and 50G PON coexist. Empire Fiber Internet launched its 100% fiber network in Berwick, Pennsylvania, backed by a $1.4 million local investment that brings symmetrical speeds to more than 2,800 homes and businesses. Bell launched Bell On-Demand Network, Canada’s first Network-as-a-Service platform. Built on Bell’s fibre network, powered by Cisco infrastructure, and aligned with Mplify’s seven NaaS customer experience attributes, it launches with On-Demand Internet in Ontario and Quebec. Interconnection continued to grow: AzerTelecom and DE-CIX launched AZE-IX, Azerbaijan’s first neutral Internet Exchange, which keeps local traffic in-country, supports NEQSOL Holding’s Digital Silk Way corridor between Europe and Asia, and marks DE-CIX’s entry into Western and Central Asia. DE-CIX Frankfurt also reached a record 20 terabits per second, while its global network surpassed 30 terabits per second during UEFA Europa League matches—a 140 percent traffic increase since 2020 driven by streaming, cloud, gaming, and AI.

Satellite connectivity was a major thread this month. AT&T Business integrated Amazon Leo satellite broadband, becoming the first U.S. telecom provider to extend its fiber and 5G architecture this way and giving enterprise and public sector clients resilient, fully managed connectivity through a single platform. Orange and Telesat commissioned Europe’s first Telesat Lightspeed Gateway at Orange’s Bercenay-en-Othe teleport in France, a key ground station for the next-generation LEO constellation. Eutelsat Network Solutions and G&S SatCom launched an Online Management Tool that digitizes planning, provisioning, and management of government OneWeb LEO services, while ST Engineering iDirect powered Datacom with its cloud-native Intuition ground system, enabling multi-orbit services across Asia-Pacific with a bring-your-own-hardware architecture that avoids vendor lock-in. AccelerComm was selected for a European Space Agency-funded program to move full 5G base station functionality onboard LEO satellites, delivering a regenerative 5G NTN gNodeB demonstrator at Technology Readiness Level 5. In defense, Gilat DataPath secured an order exceeding $32 million from the U.S. Department of War for multi-band DKET Systems supporting mission-critical communications across Ku, Ka, and X-band networks.

Subsea capacity rounded out the section. Ciena is upgrading the 17,000 km Africa Coast to Europe cable system with WaveLogic 6 Extreme to deliver more than 30 Tb/s for over 500 million people, and FLAG has deployed Ciena’s Waveserver with WL6e on its ECHO cable to enable 400GbE and 800GbE services between Asia and North America, scaling subsea infrastructure for AI, cloud, and enterprise traffic.

Security and Assurance News

Security and Assurance news centered on AI-powered fraud, sovereign security operations, and preparation for the quantum era. Mobileum partnered with Apate, an AI-powered scam disruption platform whose conversational AI engages scammers directly, gathering real-time intelligence and disrupting fraud before it reaches customers—shifting CSPs from reactive to intelligence-driven prevention. Mavenir launched NetAIShield, a multi-layered, AI-native fraud protection framework that correlates network telemetry, subscriber behavior, and threat indicators in real time and extends protection to individual subscribers through a personal AI assistant. Mutare added Custom Rules to its voice security for Webex Calling, giving administrators tailored inbound call screening for critical endpoints such as reception and executive lines. At the network edge, ESpanix, Spain’s largest internet exchange point, deployed Nokia Deepfield Defender and now offers an optional DDoS protection service to more than 200 connected national and international networks.
