COMET News - April 2014

Simply put, the hundreds of telcos that serve smaller communities must evolve and innovate.

Verizon: security experts?

Verizon has been positioned by Gartner Inc. in the Leaders quadrant in the “2014 Magic Quadrant for Global Managed Security Services Providers (MSSP)” report.

According to Gartner: “Each of the service providers in the Leaders quadrant has significant mind share among enterprises looking to buy a MSS as a discrete offering. These providers generally receive very positive reports on service and performance from Gartner clients. MSSPs in the Leaders quadrant are typically appropriate options for enterprises requiring frequent interaction with the MSSP for analyst expertise and advice, portal-based correlation and workflow support, and flexible reporting options.”

Eddie Schwartz, Vice President of global security solutions for Verizon Enterprise Solutions, said, “We believe Verizon is a leader in the managed security and consulting services space with extensive analytic assets and unparalleled visibility into the global threat landscape. The realities of today’s threat landscape require enterprises to focus on understanding the business context of an attack, and to take direct remedial action."

“With our unique capabilities, Verizon offers enterprises the opportunity to offload the heavy costs and complex requirements associated with critical security analytics, multisource intelligence fusion, and routine security management tasks, such as log and device management, to truly focus on protecting their critical information assets,” he added.

Who wants to partner with MSOs for small cell rollouts?

Small cells are all the rage, but mobile network operators (MNOs) have been slow to deploy the diminutive devices. According to new research from Amdocs, an untapped business opportunity has developed for cable and satellite operators.  Most MNOs are willing to partner with third-parties, such as MSOs, to speed small cell deployment. How many? The number might surprise you.

VoLTE updates

Voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) is slowly being rolled out around the globe as service providers make the necessary improvements to their networks to ensure this next-gen service delivers next-gen quality of service. Customers of Asia Pacific Telecom will be the first in Taiwan to enjoy VoLTE, thanks to network upgrades from Alcatel-Lucent.

CHR Solutions gains momentum

After a period of relative quiet and some internal rightsizing, CHR Solutions is picking up speed. GRM Networks, a regional provider of telephony and broadband, has selected CHR’s Omnia360 software for billing and customer care.

"We are thrilled with the capabilities Omnia360 will provide.  It will make our billing and customer care teams more efficient and responsive," stated Ron Hinds, General Manager of GRM Networks.  "Omnia360 will completely modernize the way we work - streamlining ordering and provisioning, automating service activation, and providing new billing and rating capabilities. The sales and marketing modules will allow us to create and support the product bundles and differentiated offerings our customers want. Plus, it will be easy to use and work seamlessly with Microsoft Office."
