Cablenet Taps Harmonic to Modernize Cyprus Broadband

Cablenet Selects Harmonic’s cOS Broadband Platform to Deliver Multi-Gigabit Speeds in Cyprus

Key Takeaways:

  • Cablenet has selected Harmonic’s cOS™ virtualized broadband platform to modernize its DOCSIS access network.
  • The distributed access architecture (DAA) deployment supports Cablenet’s delivery of high-performance gigabit speeds and future speed tiers over its access networks.
  • The cOS platform simplifies operations, enhances subscriber QoE and lowers OPEX.

Harmonic (NASDAQ: HLIT) announced that Cablenet Communication Systems plc (“Cablenet”), the second largest fixed network operator in Cyprus and a leading converged fixed and mobile operator, is modernizing its broadband access network with Harmonic’s market-leading cOS™ virtualized broadband platform. The deployment strengthens Cablenet’s gigabit service capability, simplifies network operations and enhances subscribers’ quality of experience (QoE).

“The real measure of network modernization is the difference it makes for our customers,” said Panayiotis Kouloumbrides, Chief Core Networks Officer at Cablenet. “Harmonic’s cOS platform strengthens our DOCSIS 3.1+ network footprint, giving our customers fast, consistent gigabit broadband they can count on today, tomorrow and always, with a clear path to even higher speeds. We believe that broadband should simply work for our customers, every time.”

A Platform Built for the Next Generation of Broadband

With Harmonic’s virtualized cOS platform in a DAA with low-power Oyster nodes, Cablenet can introduce significantly higher speeds across its footprint and efficiently scale services as subscriber needs evolve. The cOS software-based platform also preserves flexibility for Cablenet’s longer-term multi-technology network strategy.

Consolidating Infrastructure and Reducing OPEX

The cOS platform supports Cablenet’s approach to consolidating data centers and simplifying hub-site infrastructure as part of the operator’s cost-optimization initiative. By moving network functions from legacy hardware to Harmonic’s software-based platform, the operator can reduce space, power and wiring requirements and lower OPEX while streamlining operations.

Gaining Access to Operational Intelligence

With the transition to the cOS platform, Cablenet can now access Harmonic’s Central AI-driven network intelligence for greater network visibility, more efficient monitoring, faster troubleshooting and improved service assurance.

“Operators need a practical path to enhance services today while preserving the flexibility to evolve their networks for tomorrow,” said Stefan Meier, Vice President of Sales, Europe, at Harmonic. “Our cOS platform provides Cablenet with a strong foundation to modernize its network, simplify operations and deliver a superior broadband experience. We’re pleased to support Cablenet’s forward-looking network strategy and its commitment to delivering faster, more consistent connectivity and a better quality of experience for its subscribers.”

Harmonic is the market share leader in cable broadband equipment, virtual CMTS and DAA, according to Dell’Oro Group, the trusted source for market information about the telecommunications, networks and data center IT industries. The company’s market-leading cOS platform powers next-gen broadband services through more than 48 million CPE devices worldwide for leading operators in North America, Europe, Latin America and Asia.
