Gateworks Radio Extends IIoT Range and ReliabilityGateworks Launches GW16170 - a USA-Made High-Power Wi-Fi HaLow Module that Extends Range and Reliability for Industrial IoTGateworks Corporation, an Ezurio company, announces the GW16170, a high-power, long-range, 900MHz 802.11ah, M.2 2230 E-Key Wi-Fi radio designed to provide Wi-Fi HaLow wireless communication utilizing Gateworks single board computers (SBCs). Built with the Morse Micro MM8108-M20-US module, the USA-made GW16170 delivers up to +27.5 dBm of transmit power, extending range and wall/foliage penetration well beyond standard Wi-Fi HaLow deployments. This higher-power profile reduces the number of access points needed for large sites and strengthens link reliability for North American Industrial IoT and Edge AI deployments operating in demanding RF environments. Engineers can integrate the GW16170 as a drop-in solution with any single board computer featuring a standard M.2 E-Key socket. It operates plug-and-play with Gateworks' SBCs based on NXP Semiconductors (NASDAQ: NXPI)'s i.MX 8M Mini, 8M Plus and i.MX 95 processors, including the Venice, VeniceFLEX and Catalina families. Together, these platforms create a powerful, scalable foundation for long-range wireless connectivity and edge computing across advanced industrial, autonomous and edge AI-driven systems. "Our partnership with Morse Micro is critical to delivering complete, high-performance wireless solutions to the industrial market," says Kelly Peralta, Vice President of Sales & Business Development, Gateworks Corporation. "The GW16170 gives system integrators a high-power option purpose-built for North America's toughest coverage challenges — the kind of range and reliability that used to require cellular or costly proprietary radios." Scaling IoT connectivity across a large physical footprint has become a core challenge for site owners, with many looking for ways to reduce the number of access points needed to get full coverage. The Gateworks GW16170 addresses this directly with a high-power variant engineered for North America's 902–928 MHz license-exempt band. Operating at sub-GHz frequencies inherently improves range and penetration through walls, floors and foliage compared to conventional 2.4/5 GHz Wi-Fi, and the GW16170's elevated transmit power extends that link budget even further — making it practical to cover expansive campuses, yards and outdoor sites with far less infrastructure. "The 16170, powered by our MM8108-M20 module, shows how Wi-Fi HaLow continues to mature to meet the industrial sector's toughest range and reliability requirements," says Michael De Nil, CEO and Cofounder, Morse Micro. "Gateworks is ensuring system integrators have access to a high-power, long-range solution for their most demanding outdoor and industrial deployments." The GW16170 delivers data rates up to 43.3 Mbps, supports over 100 connected clients per access point, and maintains uninterrupted data flow for mission-critical applications such as smart transportation, smart energy, and smart city & security. The GW16170 supports access point and station mode, WPA2-PSK/WPA3-SAE/WPA3-OWE security, and standard Linux IP networking — allowing developers to integrate it with familiar tools and no proprietary SDKs. It is FCC certified for use in North America; customers deploying in Europe should use the companion GW16167. The GW16170 is available now through Gateworks and authorized channel partners.
