R&M Pushing for Aerial Deployment Solutions for Fiber to the Home

Fiber to the Home via Above-Ground Cable Laying

R&M pushing for aerial deployment solutions for Fiber to the Home. Precon program for faster FTTH rollout with pre-terminated splice closures and distribution cabinets.

R&M, the globally active developer and provider of high-end infrastructure solutions for data and communications networks, is expanding its portfolio for fiber-optic-based above-ground cable laying. It supports fast, large-scale FTTx network connectivity in suburban and rural regions. The portfolio includes splice closures, box and terminal systems for cabling to masts and above-ground fiber optic distribution, as well as outdoor adapters and cables. The global Precon program is also new. It simplifies the expansion of aerial cabling for FTTH access networks in rural areas, known as aerial deployment.

With the Precon delivery program, R&M offers network operators an opportunity to order ready-to-install all-in-one solutions. The program covers all known network topologies such as PON and PtP. The R&M plants assemble FO distribution and connection systems, and configure splitters to comply with the requirements of the individual FTTH projects.

R&M delivers the prepared, factory-tested closures, boxes, terminals and cables on time to the construction site in accordance with local and logistical requirements. Technicians only need to attach them to masts, supports or buildings and then connect them. This ensures fault-free cabling. Assembly requires hardly any tools or work preparation, and no splice equipment.

Know-how and support for FTTH rollouts
In addition, R&M advises FTTH providers around the world on the planning of network topology, cable routing and split ratios. R&M supports telecom companies from the evaluation of infrastructure elements to the measurement, commissioning and maintenance of access networks.

With the aerial portfolio and the Precon program, we are increasingly committed to the rapid and cost-optimized expansion of fiber optic networks in rural areas. An FTTH rollout can be implemented around two and a half times faster than usual with above-ground cable laying. Existing masts can continue to be used. There is no need for digging and trenching,ยป says Thomas Ritz, R&M Market Manager Public Networks, explaining the program. The R&M housings can be retrofitted for subsequent network expansion and unused ports can be plugged in at any time.

The cornerstones of the aerial deployment portfolio include SYNO and ZOONA splice closures for fiber optic distribution in streets and towns. Box systems such as CTO RIO, Polaris, SRS and TAP are used for fine distribution with fail-safe patch, splice and splitter connections. Self-supporting ADSS and drop cables pre-terminated on one or both sides complete the portfolio. The R&M aerial portfolio is configured for climatically demanding countries.

Fail-safe optical connector systems paired with pre-assembled distribution boxes and robust ADSS and drop cables form the backbone of the cabling of access and FTTH networks.
