Transatel Expands into US To Serve MVNO, IoT Markets

Transatel Deploys Affirmed Networks' NFV Solution to Enable Strategic Network Expansion into the US Market

Paris-based mobile telephony and connectivity provider Transatel is expanding into the US, deploying MA-based Affirmed Networks' network functions virtualization technology to deliver services to MVNO and M2M customers

ACTON, Mass. and PARIS, Jan. 4, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Affirmed Networks, the leader in virtualizing public mobile networks, and Transatel, a leading enabler in MVNO and IoT, today announced the extension of their partnership into North America, where Transatel has now deployed Affirmed Network's Mobile Content Cloud™. The solution underlies Transatel's upcoming commercial launch of their embedded connectivity service for laptops and tablets in the United States. Transatel has been a customer of Affirmed Networks since July 2014, when they first deployed the virtual Evolved Packet Core (vEPC) to deliver services to European Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNO) and Machine-to-Machine (M2M) customers.

Affirmed Networks' Mobile Content Cloud solution is located within Transatel's Point-Of-Presence in the historic Western Union building in New York City, one of the most important internet hubs in the world (a location that has been hosting core telecom operations since the days of the telegraph).

New York was selected as an ideal location, representing a logical "cross-roads" between Europe and North America and in close proximity to the operators Transatel works with in the US.  To date, those include Sprint and Tata Communications for GRX/IPX services as well as Cogent and Zayo for IP services).

"Expanding Transatel's worldwide infrastructure serves the global vision of the SIM 901 solution. Our ambition is to become the leading embedded connectivity platform for tablets and laptops," said Jacques Bonifay, CEO of Transatel. "We were able to become operational in just two months, which has helped us be responsive to the needs of our customers in this new market."

"Transatel's ability to expand into the US is due to their understanding and belief in the transformational benefits of NFV as a new architecture," said Hassan Ahmed, Chairman and CEO of Affirmed Networks.  "In addition to enabling strategic benefits like this expansion, operators that move to virtualize their network typically experience accelerated time-to-market related to the delivery of new 4G service offerings and a significantly improved flexibility around the types of offerings they can provide. It's truly exciting to see how the deployment of this new architecture is enabling business transformation."

Affirmed Networks has also been deployed by Transatel in several European locations.  The companies intend to extend their relationship further, as Transatel eyes expansion first into the Asian and later the Middle Eastern markets.

As a leading MVNE/MVNA and M2M enabler in Europe, Transatel has successfully launched more than 120 MVNOs across Europe and manages over 1.7M SIM cards.

Affirmed Network's Mobile Content Cloud solution is currently deployed in some of the world's largest mobile service provider networks. With more than 25 customers, and 40 trials underway, Affirmed Networks continues to lead the industry in the deployment of virtualized mobile networks.
