CHR Solutions Gifts Advanced GPS Technology to MSUN Engineering

CHR Solutions Donates $60k in Equipment to Montana State University-Northern

CHR Solutions is donating six advanced GPS units to the College of Technical Sciences at Montana State University-Northern in Havre, Montana. Each donated unit is valued at approximately $10K. Specifically directed to the College of Technical Sciences within the university, the equipment will be used by students in their Agriculture, Diesel, and Civil Engineering Technology programs.

“CHR is fully committed to supporting the communities we work in,” says Dustin Heath, Director of Engineering Operations and CAD Technology at CHR Solutions. “Our goal is to materially contribute to deepening the education of these advanced engineering students, preparing them in practical ways for their careers post-graduation, while promoting the advancement of Geographic Information System (GIS) data collection and usability, which represents a key component of functional data collection for the future.”

MSUN will be putting the GPS devices into the hands of students during the Spring semester of 2023. Initially, the donated equipment will be used to gather and collect data for structural analysis of utility poles. However, the school has been granted complete discretion in its use of the equipment, which may range from gathering data related to assets located on campus, such as, utility access holes, water valves, and telephone pedestals to identifying types of weeds for agricultural purposes, which might allow them to target specific weeds for precision spraying.

“We’re delighted the school will be able to offer the use of this advanced GPS technology to our Engineering students,” says Dave Kruger, Dean of the College of Technical Sciences at MSUN. “Data collection and manipulation is critical to the work for which they’re being trained, and this equipment will allow them to operate at the leading edge of GPS/GIS technology.”

CHR Solutions is making this donation in alliance with their partner ikeGPS, a platform technology company that’s donating structural analysis software to be used with the GPS equipment.

According to Chris DeJohn, Senior Vice President of Sales and Business Development at ikeGPS, “Our IKE Office Pro software will allow the images and information gathered through the GPS equipment to be manipulated by the students for providing accurate and targeted measurements, while saving them time in the field gathering ancillary pieces of data.”

Using this equipment, in combination with the software provided by ikeGPS, and in conjunction with the other GPS equipment already owned by the school, the students will learn to create and build the GPS data forms and efficiently gather data. It’s anticipated that this equipment will help provide significant educational benefits to the students in preparedness for the real-life engineering challenges they’ll encounter after graduation.
