Verizon awarded Networx contract extensions from U.S. General Services Administration

The US General Services Administration (GSA) has announced a 5 year extension to Verizon's Networx program while the agency transitions to a streamlined network strategy focused on solutions instead of technologies

The U.S. General Services Administration has awarded extensions to Verizon for contracts held by the company under the agency's Networx program. The contract extensions will provide federal agencies with the ability to continue procuring network and communications services from Verizon while the government transitions to a new, comprehensive solution-based contract, Enterprise Infrastructure Solutions, or EIS.

The Networx contract extensions feature a one-year base period and two one-year options. Following are the contracts held by Verizon that the U.S. General Services Administration recently extended.

  • Networx Universal: Extended to March 2020, Verizon's Networx Universal contract was set to expire in March 2017.The contract was originally awarded in March 2007.
  • Networx Enterprise: Extended to May 2020, Verizon's Networx Enterprise contract was set to expire inMay 2017. The contract was originally awarded in May 2007.

"The technology landscape is shifting dramatically and federal agencies require access to advanced communications, IT and security solutions to enable their digital government initiatives to streamline operations, boost employee productivity, and enhance the delivery of citizen services," said Michael Maiorana, senior vice president of public sector markets, Verizon Enterprise Solutions. "We are appreciative of the long-standing collaborative relationship we have forged with the GSA and our newly extended Networx program contracts will help ensure that we continue working together to enable federal agencies to deliver on their mission commitments in the U.S. and around the globe via reliable and secure network services for years to come."

The Networx program offers a comprehensive portfolio of integrated communications and network solutions, ranging from converged voice, video and data services delivered over a single network to a variety of next-generation offerings, including advanced IP, managed and professional services, customer-premises equipment and managed cybersecurity services.

The U.S. General Services Administration previously granted Verizon an extension on its contract under theWashington Interagency Telecommunications System 3, or WITS 3, program. The WITS 3 contract extension held by Verizon became effective in Nov. 2015 and features a three-year base period and two one-year options.  The contract, if the government exercises its options, will now run through May 2020 and is used by agencies in Washington, DC and the surrounding areas of Maryland and Virginia.
