DataBank Expands Data Center in Pittsburgh

DataBank Announces Expansion of its “PIT2” Pittsburgh Data Center

Meets growing customer demand for critical IT infrastructure

DataBank, a leading provider of enterprise-class colocation, connectivity, and managed services, announces the expansion of its Pittsburgh Data Center, PIT2, to meet the growing demand for mission critical IT infrastructure in the Pittsburgh market.  The company added 25,000 sq. ft of raised floor space and 2.5MW of power to this geographically strategic site, bringing the totals to 40,000 sq. ft. of raised floor space and 4.5MW of UPS power.

Pittsburgh, a city that links Midwest and Eastern business markets, is also a world-class hub nurturing technology, research, and education assets. The city’s Pittsburgh Innovation District, a center for inventiveness and ingenuity, includes the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University (home of the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center).

“It’s been estimated that local enterprises have invested more than two billion dollars into research and development in the area,” comments Danny Allen, vice president of engineering at DataBank.  “This investment is driving the need for colocation, connectivity, and cloud services -- and makes Pittsburgh a prime location for enterprise-class data centers. We are proud to provide our customers with the reliable IT infrastructure they need to create a limitless digital future for their business.”

DataBank expanded space within this secure, three-story, 115,000 sq. ft. building in North Fayette Township, and augmented the facility’s power and cooling systems to provide a total of 4.5 MW of redundant power and flexible cooling to support 60KW per cabinet. This carrier-neutral facility offers excellent connectivity with a range of onsite carriers, and a high-speed connection to PIT1, the regional carrier hotel, which provides even more options.

The site is located on ten acres, giving DataBank the opportunity to expand to meet future growth. In addition, DataBank operates the facility to meet the FISMA (Federal Information Security Management Act) compliance standard.

DataBank’s edge infrastructure platform provides colocation, cloud and network services across its 60+ data centers, modular/micro data centers and 20 neutral interconnects. The company’s hands-on support, managed security and compliance services along with 100% uptime guarantee, provide an extra level of support and reliability for enterprises.
