Bouygues Telecom Selects Ericsson for 5G SA and Private 5G Networks

Bouygues Telecom signs a strategic partnership with Ericsson for 5G Stand Alone and private 5G networks dedicated to businesses

Bouygues Telecom announces the start of the second phase of its 5G deployment strategy and signs a strategic partnership with Ericsson for the supply and integration of a new core network called 5G Stand Alone (SA) . With this new, cloud-native core, Bouygues Telecom is preparing to meet the future needs of its consumer and business customers.

From July 2022, Bouygues Telecom customers will be able to experience and measure all the benefits of 5G Stand Alone within the operator's 5G Lab. In addition, business customers will be able to experiment with the use of 5G Stand Alone in their own premises thanks to a test offer allowing the deployment of 5G SA in an area of 100 to 1,000 m2 for a limited period.

From 2023, thanks to the strategic partnership with Ericsson, Bouygues Telecom will offer new mobile private network solutions to meet the challenges, particularly of manufacturers, in terms of criticality and security levels:

The creation of a virtual mobile network on the Bouygues Telecom network: this solution will rely entirely on the public Bouygues Telecom network. With 5G SA, a "slice"* will be made available, offering a differentiated quality of service and, if necessary, personalized routing (for example, to the nearest Edge Computing center operated by OnCloud, a subsidiary of Bouygues Telecom) .

The deployment of a hybrid mobile network, for more demanding needs in terms of security or latency. Coverage of the customer's sites and local routing will then be provided by dedicated mobile network equipment (Local Packet Gateway) and remain controlled by Bouygues Telecom's core network. The customer's critical traffic will remain local and will benefit from the pooling of operating resources and frequencies of the Bouygues Telecom network

In addition, Bouygues Telecom will market from the second half of 2022, Ericsson's dedicated private network solution (EP5G). The entire mobile network dedicated to the customer is then deployed at the latter, including the core network. This network is completely independent of the Bouygues Telecom network and can operate on 5G and 4G frequencies made available by the operator or allocated by ARCEP.

These new private or hybrid mobile networks meet the needs of industry, logistics, transport, events or health in terms of security, flexibility and performance. They will support multiple use cases that previously required multiple networks and technologies. Tomorrow, they will also meet the needs of more demanding applications such as augmented reality (maintenance), quality control or personal safety (video), AGV (Automatic Guided Vehicle) piloting or the massive transmission of control of production chains of logistics platforms.

According to Franck Bouétard, CEO of Ericsson France, "This agreement with Bouygues Telecom, our long-standing partner, marks a new step to accelerate the digital transformation in France and take full advantage of 5G technology, for the general public as well as for companies, with the 5G Stand Alone mode Ericsson solutions for dedicated private network (EP5G), for hybrid mobile network with a Local Packet Gateway (LPG) and for virtual mobile network with slicing (5G Core) will allow significant gains with a dedicated quality of service and reduced latency, for critical and secure business applications."

"This agreement with Ericsson, a long-time partner, announces the implementation of a key step for Bouygues Telecom in the deployment of 5G. This 5G Stand Alone core network will enable us to offer our consumer and business customers , the best of technology from 2023. Different mobile private network solutions will enable manufacturers to benefit from strategic uses, Bouygues Telecom is proud to support them in this digital transition with the quality and security of its network." says Benoît Torloting, CEO of Bouygues Telecom.
