Sprint Rolls Out New Anti-Robocall, Spoofing Service

TNS and Cequint Deploy Next Generation Robocall Solution Delivering Best-in-Class Service for Sprint Customers

Transaction Network Services (TNS) today announced that Sprint will be deploying TNS subsidiary Cequint's new caller ID solution that features an advanced telephone number scoring and categorization algorithm to more effectively protect subscribers from robocalls and ID spoofing

Transaction Network Services (TNS) and its subsidiary, Cequint, are providing Sprint with an important new service which will help protect Sprint’s customers from unwanted robocallers and caller ID spoofers.

Sprint is the first carrier using Cequint’s Enhanced Caller ID service in conjunction with TNS Call Guardian service to identify fraudulent and nuisance callers as well as caller ID spoofing. The combined service provides Sprint’s Premium Caller ID customers with unparalleled protection against problem callers. The service is newly available on Sprint’s HTC Bolt, and will be available on more devices soon.

Mark Yarkosky, Sprint’s Director of Product Management said: “Sprint is proud to be partnering with TNS and Cequint to deliver best-in-class robocall identification to improve the experience of our customers. This technology provides a scientific and accurate way of offering a robocall protection solution that integrates seamlessly with our Premium Caller ID service.”

TNS Call Guardian’s telephone number scoring and categorization algorithm is based on network data gathered via TNS’ unique position in the public telephone network. TNS handles 25 billion call events every month from over 400 operators.

Joe Lueckenhoff, Executive Vice President and General Manager of TNS’ Telecommunication Services Division, said: “We’re delighted that Sprint is using Cequint’s Enhanced Caller ID with TNS Call Guardian in the war against robocalls. Our proprietary algorithm detects and scores robocallers in real-time with a high degree of accuracy. It does not rely on honeypots or consumers’ estimations of what kind of call they have received, but depends on real-time analytics to update scores on a constant basis.”

The Sprint Premium Caller ID application from Cequint displays a caller’s category and fraud risk level, identifying calls from robocallers, spammers, spoofers, and scammers, and putting the decision about whether to answer calls in the hands of Sprint subscribers. Subscribers may elect to block the number in order to prevent future calls and may also choose to report the call, which is used to refine data via crowd-sourcing.

TNS Call Guardian assesses the calling behavior of more than 500 million unique telephone numbers and, through the use of real-time data, ensures that legitimate callers whose calling identity has been hijacked by spoofers can regain their reputations quickly. TNS Call Guardian is accessible via numerous types of signaling protocols, can be customized by the individual operator, and is available to all types of service providers, including wireless, VoIP, and TDM wireline.
