Report: High-Speed Broadband and IoT Driving Global LTE Base Station Growth

Global LTE Base Station Market to Grow at a CAGR of 17% Through 2021, Says Technavio

A new report released today by Technavio indicates that the global LTE base station market will experience double-digit growth over the next five years driven by rising demand for high-speed broadband services and growing use of IoT applications

According to the latest market study released by Technavio, the global LTE base station market is expected to grow at a CAGR of more than 17% during the forecast period.

This research report titled ‘Global LTE Base Station Market 2017-2021’ provides an in-depth analysis of the market in terms of revenue and emerging market trends. This report also includes an up to date analysis and forecasts for various market segments and all geographical regions.

According to Abhishek Sharma, a lead analyst at Technavio for M2M and connected devices research, “The market is expected to grow constantly because of the rising demand for high-speed broadband services and the growing consumer awareness of IoT applications such as connected homes and automobiles.”

The market research analysis categorizes the global LTE base station market into four major end-user segments. They are:

  • Residential and SOHO
  • Enterprise
  • Urban
  • Rural and remote

Residential and SOHO

The global LTE base station market by the residential and small office or home office (SOHO) segment is expected to grow at a CAGR of close to 15%. Stringent regulatory norms for telecom operators in some countries are restricting the growth of the market in this segment. Some countries have norms that require network operators to offer the exact information on every base station location. Furthermore, to meet E911 needs, operators require to offer registered locations of mobile network equipment to the authorities of emergency services such as fire brigades and health and safety agencies.

Enterprise

The global LTE base station market by the enterprise segment is expected to grow at a CAGR of more than 20%. In the enterprise segment, mobile operators or enterprises deploy transceivers with 4G/LTE radio in enterprise buildings and on campuses. It can be freestanding or wall-mounted with a location lock. It supports 8-32 simultaneous calls or sessions. It also includes femto-to-femto assignment capability and the Power over Ethernet (PoE) support. It is backhauled over existing in-building cabling and is deployed in an open or closed mode and typically indoors.

Urban

The global LTE base station market by the urban segment is expected to grow at a CAGR of around 25%. In the urban segment, the transceiver with a 4G/LTE radio serves as the connection point between a wireless device and the cellular network. This device is used for densely populated environments such as parks or city centers (outdoor) or convention centers, shopping malls, or transport hubs (indoor). These are connected with a macro layer through a heterogeneous network (HetNet).

Rural and remote

The global LTE base station market by the rural and remote segment is expected to grow at a CAGR of more than 10%. In the rural and remote segment, the transceiver with 4G/LTE radio serves as the connecting point between a cellular network and a wireless device. This setup helps in providing coverage for isolated locations and remote communities. It performs the same functions as that of a BTS but with a maximum coverage of 1 km to 2 km. It supports more than 100 users and provides an output power of 2 W to 5 W. It may have integrated Wi-Fi and can be deployed where there is no macro coverage.

“Rural small cells are designed to cater to localized hotspots in remote areas such as hamlets and small villages,” says Abhishek.

The top vendors highlighted by Technavio’s ICT market research analysts in this report are:
