Pipeline’s Q and A
with Andrew Feinberg, CEO of NetCracker

back to cover

This month, Pipeline took the time to speak with Andrew Feinberg, CEO of NetCracker. He had a bit to say about trends in the OSS industry, why NetCracker’s critics have it all wrong, and how he wants to give you a job.

Q: In a few sentences, can you describe what NetCracker has that other players in the OSS space do not?
A: What you certainly know, having been following the space, is that carriers are going through a remarkable change today. Fundamentally, they’re migrating, both technically and culturally, from the legacy environment where they used to be access providers, to the next generation environment where they truly become service providers.  All of their OSS needs within the last several years have drastically changed. What NetCracker brings to carrriers around the globe in these very challenging moments of their life cycle is a solid transformational solution that is based on a very strong and comprehensive solution suite.

"Carriers have truly escalated OSS from mostly back office to truly strategic, mission-critical front office applications. "

Q:) A few years ago, you told Pipeline that " Where [the OSS industry] has had a lack of consistency has been in delivery of applications." Do you feel that this is still the case? Has the situation improved?

A: Delivery is always imperitive. Having said that, what we’ve seen over the past few years is that the industry has matured greatly and carriers today, in going through that transformation recognize that in managing the service layer and delivering proper services to customer is absolutely key to their competitive positioning.  Carriers have truly escalated OSS from mostly back office to truly strategic, mission-critical front office applications.

Q: What is currently on the NetCracker agenda as you close out the year and move into the new year?

A: When we’re looking into the industry and mapping our solution to industry needs, our solutions are evolving accordingly.  We have a very solid solution in the resource management space, which is absolutely critical, but what we’ve been doing over the last few years is recognizing that as our customers develop and transform, our solutions need to change as well.  We’re not limiting ourselves to purely resource management, but truly taking a leadership position in the service fulfillment, service delivery side of the house.  We offer services across multiple heterogeneous networks, and truly give our carrier customers the ability to abstract the service layer.

Q: What will be the biggest change in the OSS industry in the next two years, in your opinion?

A: For the next two years the carriers are going to continue to invest heavily in OSS.  I see this industry growing and becoming more and more mature.  As service layer is getting better understood by carriers around the globe, especially in the IP space, I expect the solutions in this industry to mature as well.  I’m seeing remarkable global demand for OSS today and heightened awareness from carriers as to how mission critical OSS is.
