LTE Emerges
   By Tim Young

It’s getting mighty crowded out there.

I don’t mean crowded with people (though I’m sure any US citizen who was foolish enough to set out on post-Thanksgiving shopping trips would SWEAR that the world population had quintupled since the day before), as that would be another conversation for another time and another publication.

What We Learned From TM Forum Management World Americas 2009
By Tim Young, Phillip J. Britt, and Paula Zimmerman

In early December, OSS/BSS vendors converged on Orlando for the TM Forum’s Management World-Americas 2009. The event, which has seen varied success levels over the years, has continued to attempt to solidify its market niche as an OSS/BSS event for not only North America, but Latin America, as well. In addition, the event is, at the very least, an interesting precursor for what we might be able to expect from the Forum’s flagship event in Nice. So, after having attended the event once again, here are a few things we learned from Management World Americas, 2009.

Objects in LTE May Be Closer Than They Appear
   By Ed Finegold

I think LTE is for real and may be closer than we realize. Usually I am skeptical about emerging trends that tend to be overly hyped. In LTE’s case though, I see some key factors that tell me that operators and the market are ready for LTE in many important ways. Perhaps the most important factor, from a business perspective, is that billing is ready and waiting for LTE to catch up.

Confronting the Capacity Crunch
   By Tim Young

Traffic Jam:

No one enjoys being stuck in traffic. As you read this article, you may still be recovering from your morning or evening commute. In fact, if traffic is particularly nasty in your neck of the woods, you may be reading this article while you’re sitting in near-standstill traffic (though that’s something I can’t say I recommend).

“Cashing In” on the Promise of LTE
By Paul Sutton, Sukki Sandhar, and Manish Gupta

The start of each new year is a temporal benchmark at which time we consciously survey the progress and stumbling blocks of the prior period and fold that information into an updated perspective on what is to come. It’s a time to take stock and re-prioritize our projects and resources so we can maximize our opportunities during the next critical twelve months of our economic recovery and growth. For many operators, rising to the top of the list of critical agenda are decisions on “when” and “how” they are going to deploy an LTE network.

Realize the Revenue Potential of the Next Mobile Evolution
   By Peter Briscoe

Long Term Evolution (LTE) is being driven by the ever-growing demand for mobile broadband and need by communications service providers (CSPs) to capitalize on and realize the potential of this revenue stream while balancing costs. The existing systems used today to plan and manage the service quality will need specific focus and improvement to achieve this end game.

Letter from the Editor
   By Tim Young

“I am ahead, I am advanced, I am the first mammal to make plans, yeah. I crawled the earth, but now I'm higher. 2010, watch it go to fire. It's evolution, baby!”

- “Do the Evolution” by Pearl Jam

It’s 2010, and evolution is here. (Okay, so it’s not the dark sort of evolution Eddie Vedder wailed about in the above song, but it’s evolution, nonetheless.)
